Flowspace & Sofitel Brussels Europe present Chromatic Dreams: Mapping the Inner Landscape, a group exhibition curated by Eugenia Durandy de Naurois-Turgot. The exhibition features the works of Jane Puylagarde, Silvère Jarrosson, and Marc-Antoine Garnier, inviting viewers to explore emotional and spiritual transformation through the interplay of color and materiality.

At the heart of this exhibition lies the exploration of how color acts as a powerful catalyst for personal transformation, drawing inspiration from the philosophies of Barnett Newman and Wassily Kandinsky. Newman posited that art is the "self-evident image of revelation," emphasizing the potential for artworks to resonate emotionally and spiritually with viewers. Kandinsky, too, viewed color as an emotional and spiritual tool, treating each hue as a vessel of feeling that evokes a wide spectrum of responses—from tranquility to passion and introspection to transformation.

In this context, Chromatic Dreams prioritizes visceral encounters with color and reflection. The exhibition strips away historical references to create an immersive environment where viewers can navigate their emotional and spiritual journeys. As they move through the space, the colors and forms guide them through their inner landscapes, mirroring their emotional states.

The works of Puylagarde, Jarrosson, and Garnier collectively engage with these themes, forging a dynamic dialogue that explores self-reflection and perception. Each artist presents a unique vision that challenges traditional boundaries. Puylagarde’s intricate monochromatic reliefs combine painting and sculpture, creating organic surfaces that echo the cycles of growth and decay. Her works, such as the two-meter-thirty Fresque 3 and the new blazing Red Elevations, embody her signature exploration of texture and repetition, inviting contemplation and grounding viewers in moments of stillness.

Silvère Jarrosson bridges the worlds of dance and abstract painting, using fluid techniques like dripping and chemical reactions to explore movement and transformation. His piece Une certaine acoustique reflects an emotional journey through motion, where the tension between control and chaos invites viewers into a world of sensation. This exploration of fluidity resonates with the exhibition’s emphasis on mapping internal emotional topography.

Marc-Antoine Garnier manipulates light and time in his sculptural photography, capturing fleeting moments that reflect both external surroundings and inner emotional states. Works like L'eau et les rêves and Nuages play with perception, inviting viewers to engage dynamically with their shifting experiences, simulating the transformations they undergo within themselves.

While each artwork stands independently, its true strength lies in its interconnectedness. The body of 15 works by Puylagarde, Jarrosson, and Garnier form a unified dialogue, contributing to a narrative of emotional exploration. Together, they invite viewers to reflect on how color, texture, and form map their internal landscapes, facilitating personal and emotional transformation.

The metaphorical mirrors—further enhance this dialogue, serving as portals that blur the boundaries between viewer and artwork. These reflections symbolize the fluidity of identity and prompt moments of self-reflection and discovery. As viewers engage with the pieces, they find themselves in a continuous interplay between perception and self-awareness.

Set against the backdrop of autumn, Chromatic Dreams aligns with the natural transition of the season, symbolizing cycles of emotion and the potential for renewal. The exhibition offers a contemplative space amid contemporary challenges, inviting clarity and personal revelation through the interplay of color, reflection, and emotional resonance.

About the artists

Jane Puylagarde

Jane Puylagarde explores texture and repetition with her signature “dot” technique. Her intricate monochromatic reliefs combine painting and sculpture, creating organic surfaces that reflect cycles of growth, decay, and rebirth. Puylagarde’s hypnotic circular forms echo the exhibition’s theme of transformation, grounding viewers in moments of contemplation. Published in Beaux-Arts, AD, and Elle Decor, Puylagarde’s works have found their way into private collections and the interior design world, where her pieces hold strong appeal for architects and designers.

Marc-Antoine Garnier

Marc-Antoine Garnier’s abstract manipulation of light and time resonates with the exhibition’s focus on cyclical transformation. His sculptural photography captures fleeting moments of dawn and dusk, allowing the viewer to engage physically with his works, much like moving through their own internal landscapes. Garnier’s ability to play with light creates an experience that shifts as viewers move through the space, reflecting both external surroundings and inner emotional states. With pieces in public collections such as FRAC Normandie and Artothèque de Grand-Quevilly, Garnier is a rising star in contemporary French art.

Silvère Jarrosson

Silvère Jarrosson, who bridges the worlds of dance and abstract painting, uses fluid techniques such as dripping and chemical reactions to explore movement and transformation. His works reveal the inner qualities of the material, echoing Kandinsky’s use of color as a vessel for emotion and spirituality. Jarrosson’s dynamic processes blur the boundaries between control and chaos, inviting the viewer to witness the tension between motion and stillness—a perfect match for Chromatic Dreams’ introspective journey.
